/27/ New Glasses

Not much new this week, except that I have three new pairs of glasses! I’ve had this old plum-coloured pair for a few years, and as they were starting to lose their appeal (and some paint), I decided it was time for a change. I scored three new pairs of sexy specs.

The first pair is by Karen Millen and is a twist on your standard hipster frames. I didn’t think I would find any thick, dark, wide glasses that would look good on me, but this pair, thanks to the grey-mottled animal print of the plastic frames, actually kind of works. I think these are a bit more casual, and less sexy, but I think they’re playful and student-y so it’s all fine by me.

Feel free to follow me on instagram.

Secondly, I got a sweet pair in a similar shape to my old ones, with thin gold frames around the lenses and pretty arms which are partly tortoiseshell, and partly a colourful, chevron-y geometric pattern that reminds me a lot of Missoni. Even the buckle-esque detailing where the lenses meets the arms caught my eye. I think of these as my “mullet”: business in the front, with the sleek, simple, unobtrusive lenses; and part in the back, with gold, colour, pattern and tortoiseshell.

Please excuse crappy phone photos:

The third and final pair is a pair of sunglasses. I have a pair of Ray-Bans which I love. They look cool, they look good, and they were free – no kidding, I found them on the street in Iceland and nabbed them straight away. However, truth be told, I’ve hardly ever worn them because they’re not prescription and contact lenses don’t really agree with me… So with a heavy heart, I’m tucking them away and replacing them with this pair of similar sunnies. I think they look great, and you have no idea how wonderful it is to finally be able to comfortably see in the summer!

Also, spoiler, I got my hair cut!

So there you go, my little makeover.

looking through a filter

My extraordinarily cool friend Ellie recently posted some atmospheric, chic, old school, Hipstamatic iPhone photos of a lovely evening within beautiful Bristol. I love hipstamatic and instagram and all those fancy iPhone gadgets to make photos grainy and stainy and beautifully feathered with stories.
I however do not have an iPhone. But instead of lamenting my state of affairs – oh poor me, first world problems, no iPhone?!?!?! – I went out on the internet and found pixlr-o-matic. Well, you’ll know what’s coming next.
And you’d be right. PHOTO SPAM TIME.

Bjork’s Shoes

I want these shoes! More than I’ve wanted a lot of things. I’d pick these shoes over a banjo. That is how much these shoes. I mean, look at them!

image

I’ve wanted chunky neon multi-coloured trainers since I saw some woman in Iceland wearing similar once last December. The woman turned out to be Bjork, which I didn’t found out until after she had left, but that’s not the point. THE SHOES. Nike allows you to design them yourself, which I thought would massively bring up the price, but no! £90!Relatively reasonable, considering I’m a person who never buy shoes. WHY couldn’t they be something ridiculous like £250?

Garden Party, it’s on me

You must have heard Joanna Newsom’s 81, and if not I recommend you go now. At first listen it appears very feminine (not usually my style), but once you listen to the lyrics and appreciate the Spartan arrangement of the harp, I think you’ll love it.

Somewhat inspired by that song, and also inspired by various other bloggers, I made a little video. Music by me. Que’est-ce que vous en pensez? // What do you think of it?

This outfit is what I wore today during my TopShop interview; they told me to wear ‘anything I like’ but to ‘bear in mind TopShop is a fashion retailer’. I hope I did ok; well, I like what I’m wearing! The interview went quite well, I think, though obviously I don’t really know. The first part was a group interview where we brain-stormed what people expect from TopShop, how to sell items of clothing according to their features and benefits, and what the perfect shop assistant is like. Then we were told to go find an outfit to fit a particular brief (mine was girl-who-has-recently-been-dumped-goes-out-on-the-pull-with-her-friends), and finally was the interview with relatively normal interview questions.

Not totally normal though; I was asked what my biggest fashion faux pas and my favourite animal are, but nothing about my previous work experience or questions like “How would you deal with a difficult customer” or “Tell me of a time where you’ve had to work in a team to solve a problem.” O.o To each is own. I’d love to get this job.

We’ll see!

I once was a young fool like you

I gave in. Everyone needs a hipster hat. And I love this one, so I got it even though I thought I’d never find a hipster hat I’d like. but I do. Odd side effects though.

Not as in it makes me grow a moustache, but as in it makes me odd.

I applied to some more jobs today (Disney Store, West One, Topshop, The Entertainer, Anne Harvey) but to be honest I’m not holing any hope. If I don’t get a job, perhaps I’ll go do some HelpX work in the Shetlands.

Who knows?

I sure don’t. I’m just going to keep on teaching myself lucid dreaming, playing piano, writing songs, eating too much cake, reading foreign poems I don’t understand and wearing my fucking awesome hat.

What? No Roman Numerals?

Gamarjoba!

Well, it looks like I’m blogging again today… but it’s just one of hose “this is the stuff I’m ogling at the moment” posts. Don’t worry, it’s not all about clothes (but mostly)

1. Toms
It’s not necessarily because of the fact that one pair of shoes goes straight to a child in need, seeing as if I’m looking for a cause to support I want to research t carefully and know I’ve picked one I fully support and which has worth and significance. Because I’d rather give £40 to a charity which campaigns against genital mutilation in African tribes than provides poor children with shoes… sidetrack! And a judgmental one at that.

What I like about Toms is that they’re simple, and [look] comfortable, and on top of that they’re affordable! Oh, and then there’s the added benefit that some kid gets them for free everytime you buy a pair.

Now wait, I’ve just had a thought… if I bought 1000 pairs of Toms, and 1000 kids got the Toms, and I then returned my 1000 pairs because ‘none of them fit’…would that work?

2. Zara
Zara, being a Spanish fashion store, retails different items to those found identically in Topshop, Miss Selfridge, Warehouse, Oasis and other such British-owned high-street shops. Zara is a little bit pricier, but as well as stocking a wider range of higher quality clothes, they always sell basics which I have great respect for.

I binged. I ‘bought’ several items, of which I plan to return most, from their online store, and I can’t WAIT until they arrive! It wasn’t very daring since I couldn’t quite work up the guts to try out an orange silk shirt or bright green chinos, but it will all come in time…

3. Eee Pad

Is it an iPad copycat? Is it a netbook with a detachable keyboard? No, it’s the Asus Eee Pad Transformer!

I’ve been sort of half-semi-kind of researching getting a netbook recently; something which I can take on travels with, or sit in a coffee shop and browse the web/write essays with. I love my Dell Inspiron but I’m looking for somethign a bit more… elfin. Which is where the Eee Pas comes in.

I love this thing. It’s AMAZING.

What do you think of the Eee Pad? Or have you got an iPad/tablet/netbook you want to tell me about? Please do, if you can.

Sjáumst!

xxv Wills & Kate; Jack Wills Hate

I SAID I WOULD CATCH UP AND I DID. POSTED ON THE CORERCT DAY! WHAT AN EPIC SUCCESS!

Er… yeah, sorry… and that’s also misleading title. I’m actually not going to talk about Wills & Kate because I care about this much:

image

Ok, so I know that has little to do with anything, but… well... It’s an owl!

What this blog will actually include is scans of the abominable Jack Wills’ summer lookbook (pretentiously called a ‘handbook’). Despite the fact that I hate them (and trust me, I do) the catalogues which land on my doorstep (an accidental leftover from a previous inhabitant of the house) always contain beautiful lookbooks. I especially love the first three meadow pictures, and the ones in the forest… And I’d love to know who the redhead model is!

Where do you go to find beautiful photographs?

Can you suggest any flickr groups, blogs, magazines, tumblrs, or other websites?
